“The timing could not be more sensitive and important in the history of the Kurds as South Kurdistan is preparing to announce independence”, said Mr. Rahim Rashidi, Kurdistan TV’s famous reporter to the Kurdistan Voice after a gathering titled “a briefing on the current political situation of Kurdistan”.
Some of the universities, the institutions and the think tanks around the world particularly in the Europe and the United States hold special conference to analyze the different aspects of the Kurdish issue.
A group of Kurds and members of the Kurdish American Education Society (KAES) and the Kurdish Community of Southern California (KCSC) gathered in Van Nuys, California on April 9th and welcomed Mr. Rahim Rashidi, Kurdistan TV’s famous reporter who arrived from Washington DC and updated members on the current situation in Kurdistan in particular and the Middle East and international in general.
After welcoming Mr. Rashidi by the members, Rahim started talking on the situation of South Kurdistan and the relations among the numerous political parties, ISIS, international response to the Kurdish situation, the prospect of Kurdish independence in South Kurdistan (north of Iraq), the situation in Turkey, Iran, Syria and Iraq, Eastern Kurdistan, Rojava (Western Kurdistan) the Northern Kurdistan under Turkish occupation. The meeting was very dynamic, informative and debating among the participants.
“The recent meeting between Eastern Kurdistan political organizations which hopefully ends up to a genuine cooperation amongst them, with respect and understanding, was welcomed as a significant improvement in the political arena of Eastern Kurdistan and the future of Kurdish liberation movement in Eastern Kurdistan. The timing could not be more sensitive and important in the history of the Kurds as South Kurdistan is preparing to announce independence but there are a number of regional and internal obstacles that were discussed”, said Mr. Rashidi to the Kurdistan Voice after the gathering.
Although the gathering was scheduled for two hours, it started at 3:30 but was extended to 7 p.m. due to numerous topics and interested and enthusiastic audiences. The participants thanked Mr. Rashidi and the time he spent with the members and the important information he delegated.
The Kurdish issue has been one of the most talked political matters of the Middle-east. The Kurdish homeland has been divided between four countries (Iran, Iraq, Syria and Turkey) that all of them have special geopolitical and strategic position in the region as well as in the world. The four countries are multi-religious and multi-national ones that are in political crisis and instability specially. It seems all of them have a common reason for their crisis and instability which it is the absence of democracy.
In the past, the Kurdish leaders had tried to draw the attention of these countries’ people as well as the Western countries to this absence as a big problem not only for their citizens but also for the citizens of other countries, not only for that period of history but also for the future. Today, it seems the Western world gives more attention to this reality because maybe it is more acceptable that a real stability comes from a real democracy and observance of the human rights not from a kind of dictatorship as the Europeans had thought for one century.
